The calling by Jesus of a tax-collector named Levi was a shocking choice that would reveal how both the religious establishment and even those who were irreligious would need to get used to “different” because of Jesus! In this account we see a pattern that often repeats as Jesus extends invitations to follow Him, not just to the early disciples, but with us as well. (Luke 5:27-39)
